Boman Irani’s The Mehta Boys premieres at the International Film Festival of India, 2024

Boman Irani’s The Mehta Boys had its Asia premiere at the International Film Festival of India (2024) on Tuesday. The film marks the directorial debut of Boman who has co-written it with Alex Dinelaris. It stars Boman, Avinash Tiwary, Shreya Chaudhry and Puja Sarup and is slated to premiere on Prime Video soon.

The gala premiere was attended by Boman, along with co-writer Alexander Dinelaris Jr, co-actors Avinash, Shreya, and Puja, Nikhil Madhok, Head of Originals, Prime Video India and producers Danesh Irani and Vikesh Bhutani. They were joined by Ms. Vrunda Manohar Desai, Joint Secretary (Films), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Smt. Delilah Lobo - Vice Chairperson, Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG). The team was also felicitated by Mr. Ajay Dhoke, General Manager, National Film Development Corporation.

According to a press release shared by the makers, the film explores the nuanced bond between a father and son as they navigate generational gaps, contrasting perspectives, and shifting ideas of masculinity.

Nikhil Madhok said in a statement, “The first time we heard the story of The Mehta Boys, what struck us were the universal themes of family and identity. The story beautifully treats the conflict between a father and son and narrates it in a manner that is universally relatable. It gives us great pride to be a part of the Gala Premiere showcase at IFFI, and we are grateful for the love the audience has given to the film. At Prime Video, we have always believed that the best stories are the ones’ that venture into the complexities of human relationships and The Mehta Boys is a sublime example of that. It at its heart is simple yet effective storytelling done well”

Speaking at the premiere, Boman expressed his enthusiasm for showcasing the film at IFFI and said “The Mehta Boys is a movie that everyone will relate to- whether you’re a father, mother, son, daughter, sister or brother. It’s an emotional movie with a lot of depth. This is an incredible moment for me and the entire team of and we are absolutely thrilled to be at the 55th IFFI for the Asia premiere of our movie, which is also my directorial debut. We are grateful for the love and appreciation we have received from the audiences at IFFI.”

Earlier this year, The Mehta Boys had its world premiere at the Chicago South Asian Film Festival where it won the Best Feature Film Award. It was later showcased at the International Film Festival of South Asia in Toronto, where actor Boman Irani won the Best Actor award for his performance.

It is produced by Boman Irani, Danesh Irani, Vikesh Bhutani and Shujaat Saudagar.
